GETTING OUT OF A RUT

Subconsciously tracing back and forth over the sand with the heels of your feet. Its easy to build yourself a hole. Now that you have built yourself a hole, you have a basic human nature instinct that will come into play & you get to decide the route you want to make: Fight or flight?
Flight: Leave the hole you dug in the sand, let someone else trip in your doings. Ignore the issues at hand. Cowardly, but admittedly easier to do.
Fight: This is harder to do, you have to step up and fill in the hole you made.
See thats just it, sometimes after you dig a hole, you leave for awhile. When you come back to it you realize that someone else saw a hole and decided to dig deeper into it, thus creating a bigger problem. The point here isn't that someone else added their input to your rut, but that it affects other people and feeds from other people too. Not only can people affect your rut, your rut affects the people around you. The wrong people will help you keep digging deeper instead of filling in the gap, while the right people might trip over your hole in the sand without expecting it. Quite often we hurt the people who treat us right while the wrong people tempt us to keep digging deeper.
Steps to "un-slumping" your life:
1. Get rid of toxic people in your life. My advice for figuring out if a person is toxic in your life: Ask your mom her opinion on this person (moms are always right about your friends- moms always know before you do). Get rid of this person, shut off your phone, block their number. Whatever you have to do to get them out. (Harsh but sometimes thats just the way of life).
2. Speaking of shutting off your phone, that's what you need to do next. For me, when I find that I am beginning to feel low, its usually due to a lack of social contact with the outside world. So get out of bed, and go have coffee with your dad or a lunch date with that overdue friend that you haven't seen in ages. Make yourself go out into the world again and see the brighter side of life. Fill in the gap of the person you deleted from your life with healthy positive people.
3. Set some goals. Long term or not, goals will help you with the final stretch of feeling like yourself again. You don't need to wait for a sign to improve your life like January 1st or your birthday. Everyday is a new day, and the sooner you realize that the sooner you will feel level again.
Think of it as if your life was just regular river sand... (stay with me here) You made a hole in your life which sucks to fill back in, but if you fill it in right it's like filling the hole with sand from warm white sand Mexican beaches. The people in your life that will help you get out of a rut will make it so much better for you when you look back on your life. Digging yourself a hole sucks, but sometimes its just to make room for better things to come your way.
